The Dallas Mavericks dropped the trade of the year when ESPN’s Shams Charania had to stress to everyone that he wasn’t hacked when he announced weeks ago that the Mavs had traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis and Max Christie.
There’s no making sense of a deal of that magnitude, but everyone is trying to move on, including Mavericks superstar point guard Kyrie Irving, who has been on quite the tear since that deal went down.
StatMuse posted on X that over his last seven games, Irving is averaging 30.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game on 46/38/98 shooting splits while even leading the team with one block per game over that stretch.

With Davis getting hurt in his Mavs debut, along with injuries to Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively, Dallas is razor-thin in the frontcourt, so Kyrie turning into a dominant rim protector is a helpful subplot.
Without Doncic, much more has been asked of Kyrie, and he has answered the call to keep his team’s hopes alive this season.
The Mavericks are clinging to a fringe playoff berth and currently sit in tenth place in the Western Conference with a 32-29 record as they try to fend off the Phoenix Suns and hang on to a play-in tournament spot.
The soon-to-be 33-year-old has seemed happy ever since the Mavericks acquired him a few years ago, and he has made it clear he can be as dominant as he ever has been.
We’ll see if this team can make an improbable run when the frontcourt gets healthy, but for now, Irving is doing everything he can to keep the team afloat.
