The Vadodara leg of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) concludes with Delhi Capitals (DC) facing UP Warriorz at the Kotambi International Stadium on Wednesday.
Meg Lanning’s side had a shaky start to the season. The Capitals narrowly secured a two-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in their opener but were then handed a humbling defeat by defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
RCB dominated last year’s runners-up, securing an eight-wicket win with a commanding performance in both batting and bowling. DC’s misfiring middle order failed to build substantial partnerships, resulting in a modest total of 141. Jemimah Rodrigues and Sarah Bryce were the only batters who looked in good touch.

Returning all-rounder Marizanne Kapp struggled to find her rhythm, managing just 12 off 13 balls and conceding 27 runs in two overs. Jess Jonassen proved expensive with the ball, leaking 37 runs in her four-over spell.
The Capitals will be eager to turn things around against the Warriorz, a team they hold a 3-1 advantage over in previous encounters.
UP Warriorz, too, is looking to bounce back after a six-wicket defeat to Gujarat Giants in its opening match. Batting first, the side crumbled under pressure, failing to put up a competitive total. New skipper Deepti Sharma anchored the innings with a composed 39 off 27 balls, while wicketkeeper Uma Chetry contributed 24. However, Gujarat’s Priya Mishra ripped through the middle order.
Key players from last season, Tahlia McGrath and Grace Harris, failed to make an impact, departing for single-digit scores.
Defending 143, UP’s bowlers made early inroads with two quick wickets, but the Giants soon regained control. Sophie Ecclestone impressed with the ball, finishing with figures of 2 for 16, while debutant Alana King endured a forgettable outing.
With both sides coming off defeats, they will be desperate to head to Bengaluru with points on the board.
