NBA fans remember the days when NBC televised the league’s games back in the 1990s and early 2000s, and they remember some of the iconic broadcasters the network had, as well as its timeless “NBA on NBC” theme song.
The network will finally start covering the public NBA games once again next season as part of a new media rights deal the league recently agreed to.
Marv Albert, Bob Costas and Bill Walton may not be walking through the door to broadcast games for NBC, but Hall of Famer Reggie Miller, who has been a color commentator for TNT for many years, will reportedly be joining NBC’s NBA broadcast crew, per Yahoo Sports.

Miller was one of the NBA’s biggest stars in the 1990s and early 2000s when NBC had the broadcast rights for the league, and he provided plenty of memories during that time.
Playing for the Indiana Pacers, he once scored eight points in the final nine seconds of a 1995 playoff game versus the New York Knicks to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, and in Game 4 of the 1998 Eastern Conference Finals, he hit a game-winning 3-pointer against the mighty Chicago Bulls.
Shortly after his retirement from the NBA in 2005, Miller joined TNT’s NBA broadcast crew, which is a role he has held ever since.
NBC is still looking to finalize its broadcast crews for its return to the NBA world, and while Miller may be leaving TNT, a popular part of TNT’s NBA coverage will continue.
ESPN and ABC will continue to broadcast games as part of the new agreement next season, and “Inside the NBA,” TNT’s popular postgame segment, will be moving to ESPN and ABC.
