While Maverick Carter never made it to the NBA, he’s always been a prominent figure around the league.
That’s, of course, because of his ties to LeBron James.
Carter has always been a part of LeBron’s inner circle.
He’s made the most of his business savviness and connections to become a very successful businessman of his own.
Now, Carter is looking at a new venture.
According to a report by Front Office Sports, Carter is now leading an initiative to raise $5 billion to establish a new international basketball tournament to rival the NBA (via NBA Central).

Of course, that will be easier said than done.
The NBA is utterly powerful, and they’ve been atop the game for such a long time.
That doesn’t mean the fans won’t welcome another top-quality tournament, should it appear.
The league has had plans for expansion for years, and some believe they could even have some teams overseas.
Should this become a legitimate threat to the league, they would most likely kick the wheels and put those plans in motion sooner rather than later.
And with LeBron James most likely heading towards the sunset of his career, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him join forces with his lifelong friend and business partner in this venture at some point.
