The Dallas Mavericks just made one of the most controversial moves in professional sports history.
It’s shocking to give up on a 25-year-old superstar, much less one who wants to stay with the team for the remainder of his career.
They traded Luka Doncic just months after he led them to the NBA Finals.
Of course, that led to countless speculation about whether they trusted Doncic, and reports surfaced about his demeanor and work ethic.
On the other hand, some believe the decision was driven by financial motives, as Doncic was eligible for a supermax contract extension.
With that in mind, Jalen Rose urged the new Mavs owners to just sell the team if that’s the way they’re going to operate:

That makes perfect sense.
Mark Cuban once stated that he would divorce his wife if that was necessary to keep Doncic for the long term, and he might not appreciate what this new leadership has done with the team he worked so hard to build.
Doncic is one of the best players in the game, and he should be good for the next decade or so.
Any team in the league would’ve chosen to pay him regardless of the concerns around him.
Now, only time will tell whether they made the right choice, but it certainly doesn’t feel that way right now.
