The Golden State Warriors need help, and their best shot at getting it comes next week when the NBA trade deadline rolls around.
The front office is searching for a second big-name scorer who can play alongside Steph Curry in the twilight of his career, but can they get one?
Speaking with KNBR’s Greg Pape and Greg Silver, per NBC Sports, former president of basketball operations and general manager Bob Myers talked about why getting a second option might not be possible right now.
“Let’s say you’re right and we need a second option, the Warriors need to go out and get somebody. Then it becomes, ‘Sure, who?’ And a lot of these people being batted around as second options aren’t necessarily that,” Myers told Papa and Silver. “They might be third options on a really good team, they might even be fourth options.”
Myers went on to say that acquiring a second option for the team is a great idea, but it is easier said than done, especially with the current trade market.
He also said the Warriors might end up overspending when they are trying to secure a big trade, which could hurt them even more in the future.
The Warriors want to make a large splash right now in order to save this season and lay the foundation for the next few.
But if they aren’t cautious and smart, they could end up spending a bunch of money on a player who doesn’t check the right boxes and doesn’t provide Curry with much help.
Myers is urging caution, which might not be what fans want.
Instead, some of them are hoping for aggressive moves from Golden State’s front office.
The Warriors will likely do something by Thursday, but will it be enough?
