India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja shut down talks surrounding his retirement from One-Day International cricket following the Champions Trophy 2025 win in Dubai on Sunday.
“No unnecessary rumours. Thanks,” Jadeja wrote in an Instagram story on Monday, in all likelihood referring to the post-match comments made by skipper Rohit Sharma, who curtly ended speculations over his retirement from the format.
“I am not going to retire from this format. I want to make sure that no rumours are spread,” Rohit had said at the post-match press conference.
There were rumours circulating that the 2025 edition of the ICC Champions Trophy could be the ODI swansong for Jadeja, Rohit and Virat Kohli – India’s senior-most players in the current team – but the trio didn’t say anything that suggested a retirement was impending.

What had fuelled retirement speculations was the fact that the three had announced their retirement from T20 Internationals after India’s T20 World Cup win in June last year.
Though the youngsters stepped up and showed promise during India’s title run, Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja showed why they were still vital to the team’s aspirations in the format going forward.

Rohit struck an invaluable 83-ball 76 to set up India’s successful chase of 252 in the final against New Zealand, while Jadeja chipped in with crucial breakthroughs throughout the tournament.
Kohli was India’s second highest run-scorer in the tournament, amassing 218 runs, and played match-winning knocks against Pakistan and Australia.
With the trio still in top form, the next ODI World Cup, in 2027, may not be a bridge too far for India’s senior pros.
