Defending champion Royal Challengers Bengaluru was knocked out of the 2025 Women’s Premier League after it lost by 12 runs in a high-scoring match against UP Warriorz on Saturday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
While RCB and UPW are out of contention for the playoffs, the top three in the points table has been confirmed with Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, and Mumbai Indians having secured those berths. The order of the spots, however, will be decided during the Mumbai leg.
“They batted really positively from the first ball. Credit to Georgia Voll and how she batted,” RCB skipper Smriti Mandha said after the loss.
“The way we started, we thought it was going to be a good season. But in the last five matches, we just couldn’t live up to the expectations set by us,” she added.
This was RCB’s fifth consecutive loss in the season, four of which came at the side’s own M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
While the Smriti-led side began the campaign on a strong note, notching up two wins in Vadodara, but failed to build on that momentum. However, the team has one last chance to give its fans something to cheer for when it faces Mumbai Indians next week.
