The Minnesota Timberwolves sailed past the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night, and Anthony Edwards was a massive part of their win
Edwards put up 44 points and seven assists during the game and spoke about it after.
According to a video shared by the NBA on X, Edwards made it clear why he played so hard.
He said performing against his idol, Kevin Durant, brings out a fierce level of competitiveness in him.
Edwards has repeatedly said that Durant is his favorite player, and it’s clear that the chance to beat him is inspiring.
Reporter: “What is it about playing the Suns that brings this competitive fire out of you?”
ANT: “Kevin Durant.”

Edwards has respected Durant since he was a kid and has publicly talked about his love for him.
Earlier this year, when Edwards was asked about why he was looking forward to playing for Team USA at the Paris Olympics, he said the chance to perform with Durant made it all worth it.
For non-basketball players, Edwards’ desire to beat his idol may not make a lot of sense.
They may also be confused about why Edwards has been spotted talking trash to Durant during games.
But for Edwards, it’s a chance to prove a point and also show his affinity for his hero.
Many people have said the games between Durant and Edwards are examples of the NBA torch being passed from one generation to another.
And even though he has a tough time against him on the court, Durant has spoken about his admiration and respect for Edwards.
That admiration was likely bittersweet on Sunday night because the Timberwolves beat the Suns 116-98.
