India opener Shubman Gill smashed his second consecutive One-Day International century during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against Bangladesh in Dubai on Thursday.
Gill reached the three-figure mark in 125 balls and anchored India’s 229-run chase. His knock included nine fours and two sixes.
This was also Gill’s fourth consecutive score of fifty or more in the format. He had registered scores of 87, 60 and 112 against England in the recently concluded three-match series at home.
Gill was named player-of-the-match for his knock and said that it was one of the most satisfying innings of his career.
“Definitely one of the most satisfying innings that I have played and my first century in ICC events. Very satisfying and very happy with the way I performed. When me and Rohit [Sharma] bhai went out there, we thought cutting the ball wasn’t easy because the balls which were outside the off-stump weren’t coming onto the bat that nicely. So, I thought of using my feet to even the fast bowlers and tried to go over the circle. When the spinners came on, Virat [Kohli] bhai and I were talking about front foot shots being difficult so we planned to play more off the back foot,” he said after the match.
The 25-year-old set the tempo with a 69-run opening stand, along with skipper Rohit Sharma. After India lost Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel in quick succession, Gill’s unbeaten 87-run partnership with KL Rahul for the fifth wicket was crucial in India securing a comfortable six-wicket win.
Gill remained unbeaten on 101 off 129 balls, while Rahul was not out on 41 off 47 balls and took India over the line with a six.
The win on Thursday helped India take the second spot in the Group A points table. India next faces archrival Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, before concluding its group-stage matches against New Zealand on March 2 at the same venue.
