Delhi Capitals finished the Vadodara leg of the WPL season with two wins and a loss. The Meg Lanning-led side defeated UP Warriorz by seven wickets in yet another tense last-over finish.
The Capitals, who had opted to bowl, were troubled by UP’s powerful opening partnership between Kiran Navgire and Vrinda Dinesh. But Lanning said that the great effort from the bowling unit helped her side claw back.
“It looked like we were going to be chasing a few more after the PowerPlay. I thought UP Warriorz took the game to us early, but to claw it back to 165 [166] was a great effort from the bowling unit,” Lanning said after the match.

Annabel Sutherland shone with bat and ball for the Capitals, giving her side the breakthroughs and seeing the game off till the end. “I thought Annabel Sutherland bowled extremely well to get some key wickets up front and we were able to keep taking wickets throughout the innings.
“Just to hold her nerve through the batting end; she probably felt like she wasn’t hitting them as well as she would have liked. But to have that sort of stability at one end allowed (Marizanne) Capp to come in and play with freedom,” said Lanning after her side won with a ball to spare.
The former Australian skipper said that coming out on top of high-pressure games has shown DC’s ability to hold their composure.
“It’s been nice to win two close ones. You’re not always gonna play your best cricket and T20 can be quite fickle,” she said after the match.
“Two and one heading into Bengaluru, I think is great. We have played some tough sides and it’s a pretty even competition.”
After suffering a tough defeat in the hands of defending champion Royal Challenger Bengaluru, Lanning said that it was nice to bounce back as a team.
“We felt like we didn’t put our best effort out the other night. The good thing about this tournament is it comes around thick and fast the game. We still feel like there are areas where we can get better, which is a good thing,” she said.
