India captain Rohit Sharma ended his poor run of form with a fine half-century against England during the second One-Day International at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday.
Rohit, who has not been able to score a fifty in 10 consecutive innings in international cricket, finally reached the mark off 30 balls to bring up his 58th half-century in ODIs.
The 37-year-old had last scored a fifty in international cricket during the Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru in October last year. He had scored 52 runs off 63 balls in the second innings as India lost the match by eight wickets.
Rohit’s string of low scores has seen him being dismissed for single-digit scores in seven out of his last 10 innings. He could only manage two runs in the series opener in Nagpur on Thursday after a forgettable Test series in Australia, where he tallied 31 runs in five innings.
His poor form prompted the skipper to drop himself from the fifth and final Test of the series in Sydney, with pace ace Jasprit Bumrah assuming charge of the team.
However, India still went on to lose the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series 1-3.
With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 looming, Rohit being among the runs again will bode well for the Men in Blue, who are vying for their first ICC title in one-day cricket since 2013.
