Over the last few days, the Indiana Pacers have been attached to several trade rumors, which is somewhat surprising considering how well they have been playing.
On Friday, Fred Katz reported that the Pacers have discussed Obi Toppin in recent trade talks.
“They have discussed Obi Toppin, who makes million next season, with other teams leading into the deadline, though there hasn’t been much traction in those conversations, according to league sources. But sending someone like Toppin into another team’s cap space during the offseason just to unload his salary could cost the Pacers a draft pick, whereas if they did a deal today, they could receive back an expiring salary and maybe wouldn’t have to part with an additional asset,” Katz wrote, per NBACentral.

As Katz said, a move with Toppin would be all about strategy and helping them save money and assets.
Shipping Toppin away now instead of during the offseason could be a smart move for them and could help them not waste time, money, energy, and trade assets.
But would losing him now hurt their chances of postseason greatness, especially with how they are currently playing?
The Pacers have been on a roll lately, going 8-2 in their last 10 games and climbing up to the fifth seed in the East.
Toppin has a season average of 9.8 points and 3.9 rebounds.
Because of that, some people might be shocked to hear that Indiana is contemplating moves.
Earlier this week, there were also rumors of them possibly parting ways with big man Myles Turner.
There is a good chance that none of this happens and Toppin and Turner remain with the Pacers.
They don’t need to make any roster adjustments, but if it helps them in the long run, they will.
