Indian pacer Harshit Rana made his T20I debut against England in the fourth match in Pune.
The Kolkata Knight Riders bowler took the wicket of Liam Livingstone with his second delivery.
However, the youngster was not in India’s starting lineup. He played as a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube, who was struck on the helmet in the final over of India’s innings.
India vs England 4th T20I Highlights
In July 2019, the International Cricket Council allowed like-for-like concussion substitutes if a player was struck on the head. The ICC approved player replacements across all formats of both men’s and women’s international cricket, as well as for first-class cricket worldwide. The rule came into effect on August 1, 2019.
However, Dube, an all-rounder, was replaced by Rana, a pacer, raising questions over whether it was truly a like-for-like replacement.
According to the broadcasters, English captain Jos Buttler was unhappy with this substitution.
Rana finished with figures of 3/33 in four overs and helped India won the match by 15 runs.
With this victory, India wins the five match series with a game in to spare.
