The Major League Baseball offseason has seen plenty of action thus far as the free agent class was loaded with talented players.
While most of the players have signed with teams for the 2025 season including Juan Soto with the New York Mets, Corbin Burnes with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Blake Snell with the Los Angeles Dodgers, two big-name players remain unsigned.
New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso and Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman remain in the free agent class.
MLB Analyst Bob Nightengale revealed the two teams that are favorites to sign Bregman.
“The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox loom as co-favorites for 3B Alex Bregman with no movement in Astros talks,” Nightengale said via his personal ‘X’ account.
While it seems almost inevitable that 1B Pete Alonso returns to the Mets, the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox loom as co-favorites for 3B Alex Bregman with no movement in Astros talks.

With the 2025 season right around the corner, both Bregman and Alonso will be players to watch as they likely will be signing with a team sooner rather than later.
Bregman came into the league in 2016 with the Astros where he has played all nine seasons of his MLB career.
In 2024, Bregman played in 145 games where he batted .260 with 26 home runs, 75 RBIs, and a .768 OPS.
The Tigers were a surprising playoff team in 2024 while the Red Sox missed the postseason for the third straight year.
Both of these teams would likely benefit from a player like Bregman, not only for his on-the-field skills, but his locker room leadership as well.
Bregman will be a name to keep an eye on as a decision will have to be made soon with Spring Training lurking.
