Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs is one of the most impressive and admired young stars in the league.
Because of that, he gets a ton of attention, from fans and other players.
But Wembanyama feels he doesn’t get a fair whistle in games and has a problem with how referees treat him.
Still, Wembanyama told ESPN that he doesn’t want to get involved in that and simply wants to focus on playing the best basketball possible.
“It’s a hard thing to fight, because it feels unfair sometimes. But of course, we talk about it with the staff and there is some stuff I have to do to help myself. First of all, being strong and not bailing out shots, but also there is some work to do. Talking to the refs, of course, explaining myself. But for me, it doesn’t feel like it’s something I should influence. I’m a basketball player, I’m here to play, and yeah, this is why it’s frustrating. It’s not my job to do politics,” Wembanyama said, according to NBACentral.

His comments came after Wednesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
During that match, Wembanyama got very heated and actually charged at Ivica Zubac of the Clippers.
Wembanyama was clearly frustrated by what he perceived as a lack of calls and permission from the refs for other players to rough him up and treat him poorly.
Wembanyama has a target on his back during every single game.
He is easily the best player for the Spurs and one of the best players in the league.
After a single season, he is a major basketball personality and people still predict he is the future of the league.
The man is multi-talented and sometimes unstoppable, so it makes sense that other teams would try their hardest to limit him.
But Wembanyama feels the game needs to be fair and if they come at him, the refs should pay close attention and call fouls correctly.
If he is receiving whistles, other players should be too, Wembanyama thinks.
He said he doesn’t want to get involved in the “politics” of the game and will try to be rational and calm.
But it’s hard for him to not be frustrated with how he is being treated.
