There are reasons to be excited about the future of the Detroit Pistons, especially since this season is better than the last.
On Monday morning, the team got some very good news about one of their most promising stars.
According to Shams Charania, Ausar Thompson has been cleared to play by the NBA’s fitness panel.
Thompson has been on the sidelines since March of last season because of a blood clot issue, but he’s now been given the green light to participate in full-contact practices with plans to join his team on the court soon.

Thompson was the No. 5 pick in the 2023 draft and averaged 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game during the 63 games of his rookie season.
He was one of four rookies in franchise history to score 50 blocks and 50 steals in a season.
Although the Pistons still aren’t one of the best teams in their conference, they are looking a lot better than they did last season.
Last year, they ended up with a 14-68 record and, right now, they are 4-7.
That shows that they are making progress and getting better, even if they’re a long way from being championship contenders.
Thompson could give the team a huge boost and possibly put them in contention for the Play-In Tournament.
Blood clot problems are often career-ending so seeing Thompson return to the NBA is wonderful.
He is a young man with a lot of promise and fans are excited to see what he can accomplish now that he’s healthy again.
