The Minnesota Timberwolves are not a bad team and currently hold a 17-16 record, but many fans agree they aren’t the squad they were last year.
Speaking on TNT on Thursday night, Charles Barkley gave his opinion about why the team isn’t as competitive as it was in 2023-24.
He said that Anthony Edwards has “regressed” and is too focused on shooting three-pointers.
He said that Edwards might be averaging 19 points a night, but they’re “not a good 19.”
“I actually think Anthony Edwards has regressed”

His 2024-25 average is currently 24.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists on 44.0 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from the three-point line.
He is actually shooting better than ever from beyond the arc, sinking an average of 4.0 per game.
But his insistence on going downtown has stopped Edwards from muscling his way into the paint more often, which is what he has usually been known for.
Edwards’ style has changed, and Barkley believes that is hurting the Timberwolves.
Barkley also said the team desperately misses Karl-Anthony Towns, who is doing great work for the New York Knicks this season.
Barkley said that Rudy Gobert’s lackluster offense is also damaging the team.
The numbers show that Edwards is still a very capable and impressive player, but many Timberwolves fans want to see more from him.
Last season, Minnesota was one of the best teams in the entire league, and this year they are in the middle of the pack and many are worried about how they will look when the playoffs roll around.
Was their postseason success just a flash in the pan, or will they make another impressive run this year?
Is Edwards the root of their problems, or is it a number of things holding the Timberwolves back?
